Stop logging in Toolangi State Forest
Immediately stop logging in Toolangi State Forest
Why is this important?
This is the prime habitat of the Leadbeater's possum, an endangered species, as well as two species of threatened owl, platypus and lyrebird. The area currently being logged was the only part of the Southern Central Highlands to survive the 2009 bush fires. Quotas for logging were set prior to the Black Saturday Fires, so this is the only area left to log, although it is of high environmental value. Numbers of Leadbeaters are now perilously low. The forest is being logged for paper, which could easily be sourced from plantation timber.
