Referendum - Let Tasmanians decide if they want another STADIUM

Tasmanians want a Referendum to decide on the Stadium

Jeremy Rockliff signed a one sided deal with the AFL for a billion dollar Stadium.

However, he forgot to ask Tasmanians, Cabinet and the Treasurer if it was what Tasmanian wanted, needed or let alone can afford!

Tasmania is the smallest, poorest state in the country.  We already have two perfectly good venues which are currently used.  The AFL stipulated that in order to have a Tasmanian AFL Team, Tasmania must build a stadium in Hobart, at Macquarie Point, on prime waterfront real estate.  The AFL did not, has not offered to pay for the land!

The "threat" from the AFL regarding the Stadium:  NO Stadium - NO Team

Our state is suffering the worst health, education, cost of living crisis that we have seen for decades.  We have a $1.5 billion dollar defecit and yet the Rockliff Government want to put Tasmanian taxpayers further into debt by building a $1 to $2 billion dollar Stadium!

Meanwhile, try and call and ambulance........................

Why is this important?

  • A referendum will decide if Tasmanians actually want another Stadium
  • Tasmanian is already has a $1.5 billion dollar defecit
  • The next budget is predicted to show Tasmania in debt for almost $8 billion dollars
  • Why should we give into the ALF's blackmail just for a Team?
  • Tasmania deserves a team
  • Cost of building a Stadium is already estimated to be approximately $2 billion dollars
  • Cost of living is too high for many struggling families and getting worse
  • Health system is crumbling
  • Education system is crumbling
  • Homelessness is on the increase
  • Tasmania already has 2 venues for the 7 allocated games per year
  • The Stadium has caused a huge division amongst Tasmanians
  • Macquarie Point, the chosen site for the Stadium, is too small
  • The Stadium will be over 51 metres high, dwarfing Hunter Street heritage buildings
  • The heritage listed Good Shed is in danger of being moved
