Pedestrian traffic by residents and tourists between Olinda and Sassafras is currently challenging and unsafe, and will deteriorate further during the winter months. The growing tourism in the Dandenong Ranges would benefit from proper and safe access between these two popular destinations.

This is important as it is dangerous to cross the road and its only a matter of time until someone is killed or seriously injured. Safety improvements to this section of Bass Highway have been a high priority for the community, which is separated by this busy highway, for decades. Our school children have to cross the road each day for the bus drop off and pick up, our recreation area is over the highway for most residents while the General Store, Post Office and Pub are over the highway for the other residents so we can't avoid crossing it. The Planning and Community Consultation required for the project have already been done, the Environmental Assessment, Cultural Heritage Management Plan, Additional Survey works, Safety Audit and further refinement of the design, within existing scope, have all been progressed. Wood chipping for biofuel is highly destructive for our environment and will have a negative impact on biodiversity, water quality and be a major contributor to climate change. In Europe, South Eastern America and in Asia the biofuel industry has caused the destruction of millions of hectares of native forests. In NSW there are plans by the Forestry Corporation to clear-fell 140,000 hectares of native forest between Taree and Grafton. There are also plans to recommission the Redbank Power Station near Singleton. If this power station is used for biofuel about 1 million tons of wood chips will be needed and 1.8 million tons of CO2 would be emitted each year. Other key points: - Electricity from biofuel is 3 times more expensive than solar. - Biofuel emits up to 80% more CO2 than coal (IPPC figure). - The wood chipping of native forests is a cost to the people of NSW while saving the forest will generate millions of dollars per year in tourism. A University of Newcastle Study (The Great Koala National Park Economic Impact Analysis and Environmental Benefit Assessment. 2021) found that the protection of 315,000 hectares of native forest would generate $1.2 billion in economic output and create up to 10,000 new jobs. - The biofuel industry is not renewable - it would take many decades for trees to take up carbon again and soils are often depleted after tree removal. Trees store carbon so cutting them down greatly contributes to climate change.

While the ever-expanding oil and gas operations of Santos may have been necessary in the past, this is no longer the case. The 2018 International Panel on Climate Change report makes a clear scientific case - fossil fuel extraction and use must be rapidly phased out in order to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees. Santos must change gears, BreakAway from gas and sprint towards clean technologies such as green hydrogen. However the company shows no sign of changing its climate damaging business model and remains intent on expanding oil and gas exploration, including controversial fracking projects, while pushing unproven non-solutions like carbon capture and storage (CCS). We understand the current sponsorship arrangements with Santos are in place until 2022. We urge Events SA to seek new green sponsors for the Tour Down Under 2023. Only then will it be an event that South Australians can be truly proud of.

For decades, reforming the gambling industry has been close to impossible. But in March, the NSW Liberal Party is taking the first step by proposing a new law to reduce their harmful powers, and Labor might very well add their support too. NSW rural and remote health and hospital services are in crisis due to a lack of engagement with rural and remote people in decision-making, the absence of a clear strategy for rural health and accountability for rural health outcomes, and poorly targeted investments in recruiting and retaining doctors, nurses, mental health and allied health staff by the NSW Government. Rural and remote communities need the help of the NSW Government to fundamentally reform our rural and remote health and hospital system so that it is responsive to the needs of individual communities and has the resources to address the causes and consequences of poor health. People who live in rural and remote NSW have a higher rate of chronic diseases compared to people living in regional and metropolitan cities, will die up to 11 years earlier and have inadequate access to primary health care and hospital services. The median age of death of rural and remote people is going backwards, while more than 3,000 rural and remote residents in NSW die unnecessarily every year from preventable causes. Rural and remote people need a health and hospital system that is designed around their unique needs and circumstances. Metropolitan approaches has failed to deliver the right care in the right place and at the right time for rural and remote communities. Building the right health system will help is to save more rural and remote residents from ill-health, and premature and avoidable death. Rural and remote residents produce the fresh food we eat and generate more than 65% of the nation's export wealth. Access to appropriate health care is not just a human right, it is critical for the future of jobs and economic development in our country.

Parsons Road is a busy cut-through road for motorists accessing the Bruce Highway, Kunda Park, Forest Glen Village, Sunshine Coast Grammar School and local area. It is currently not safe to walk or ride along this section of road. The developer of Forest Pines Estate was conditioned to build a section of footpath along Parsons Road but it does not connect anywhere. The Council is allowing more residential, retirement and retail development in the local Forest Glen and Mons area such as Nature's Edge, Forest Pines estate, Azure, Greenwood, Halcyon and the future Forest Glen Village (IGA) precinct but none of these developments have little or no active transport connectivity. Council want people to use more active transport options but they are not providing the infrastructure. Extending the footpath on Parsons Road would connect up most of these developments and given people the option to walk or ride safely off an extremely busy road.
